Coffee and Sea-View Cafes in Giresun

In Giresun half the coffee is the view. Sea terraces along the shore, cafes looking down from the castle road, tea gardens in the mist in the highlands. Where to go, and at what time.

In Giresun, having a coffee is often a matter of the view. The west-facing coast, the steeply rising slopes and the mist in the highlands each offer a different companion depending on where you sit. Below I have gathered the areas that work for a coffee or tea break, along with when to go.

Along the shore: sea terraces

The easiest option is the sea terraces on the coast road. West-facing spots are ideal for sunset; sitting in the late afternoon and waiting for the sun to drop into the sea is the city's most relaxed view experience. Places that also serve breakfast are better in the morning, those that focus on coffee in the late afternoon.

The castle road: coffee from up high

The high terraces on the road up to the castle offer a view from hundreds of metres above the sea. The city, the harbour and the island are all in sight at once. After visiting the castle, walking down and having a coffee here makes a natural break. Go in the late afternoon to catch the sunset.

In the highlands: tea in the mist

Go up and coffee is often replaced by tea. The tea gardens in Kümbet, Kulakkaya and the surrounding highlands are ideal for a long break with a forest and mist view. They are cool in summer, colourful in autumn, and misty in the mornings. They can be combined with a highland breakfast.

In the city

If you are not after a view, there are quiet cafes in the city centre and around the bazaar. They suit a short break between the museum, castle and Zeytinlik. As the centre is walkable, it is easy to put the coffee break in the middle of your route.

If you also want breakfast

In Giresun coffee and breakfast often meet in the same place. The options range from a village breakfast inside a hazelnut grove to a terrace looking down on the island. Alongside the spread breakfast, do not leave without trying kuymak (muhlama); it sits at the heart of the Black Sea breakfast.

On the map

The viewpoints are marked on the map; you can set your coffee break by a nearby stop.
