In Giresun rain is not a setback but the character of the region. It is the reason for the greenery too. But if you have made a touring plan, a rainy day can spoil it. There are two kinds of solution: indoor places and spots that are better in the rain.

Indoor places

Giresun Museum

The former Gogora Church. Used as a prison between 1948 and 1967, it became a museum in 1988. Inside are finds reaching from the Bronze Age to the Ottomans. The Museum Card is valid.

Giresun Children's Library

Built as a Catholic church in 1912, a children's library since 1967. Its stained glass and stone floor are preserved; inside there is a giant chess set and puzzle games. A rainy-day saviour for families with children.

Can Akengin Art Gallery

A stone building commissioned by a Greek merchant; used as a newspaper printing house from the 1930s to the 1980s, then turned into an art gallery. If you catch an exhibition period, see inside too.

Mosques

In the centre the Castle Mosque, the Kapu Mosque and the Hacı Miktad Mosque are within walking distance. If you are in Şebinkarahisar, the Fatih and Kurşunlu mosques.

Better in the rain

Some places do not lose in the rain, they gain. The waterfalls swell, the stone streets shine, the forest scent opens up.

Waterfalls

Kuzalan and Yedi Değirmenli increase in flow with the rainfall. Provided you mind the wet ground, a rainy day is not bad for a waterfall.

Zeytinlik Neighbourhood

The wet stone facades raise the contrast, and the streets empty. A short walk with an umbrella is enjoyable.

Kulakkaya forest

The spruce forest gives off its scent in the rain. The trees provide partial cover. Just check the road conditions.

Make it a food day

A rainy day is a good excuse to try Giresun's cuisine:

Preparing for the rain

ItemWhy
Waterproof outer layerAn umbrella is useless in the wind
Spare shoes and socksOnce wet, the day is over
A case for your phoneMoisture and rain
A towel in the carAfter the waterfall and travertine

Don't

In rainy weather do not attempt path climbs like Bedrama Castle; the rocks and moss become slippery. Visibility drops on mountain roads, and the flow in streambeds can rise suddenly.

On the map

On the map the indoor stops cluster in the centre; the waterfalls are the rainy-day exception.
